About Our School

History

Laura G. Hose Elementary was dedicated in 1954 with additions in 1960, 1967 and 1999 as well as completed remodeling in 1999.  A new roof was added to the front wing of the building as well as remodeling of the office and restrooms in 2015. It houses a Kindergarten and first grade population of approximately 425 students. Currently it houses an intermediate Life Skills class, self-contained gifted and talented classes and regular elementary classes. Students are bussed from throughout the school corporation. In addition, students from North Montgomery and South Montgomery school corporations attend the Life Skills class.

Staff

The faculty at Hose Elementary is well qualified. Half of the full-time staff is certified to teach in an area or areas other than the one in which they are currently teaching. Most have their Masters Degree. The faculty works exceptionally well together and approaches problems from a wide perspective. Their decisions are based on the concept “What is best for children” and they use their experience and expertise to create winning situations for students, parents, and staff.

Programs

Parents are very active and supportive at Hose School. Volunteer parents staff the Hose Publishing Center, which publishes student writing. Other regular parent volunteer programs include Movie Night, Game Night, Popcorn poppers, classroom helpers, and an active P.T.O. The Teacher Friend and T.A.L.K.S. mentoring programs also rely heavily on parent and community volunteers.

Hose Elementary School has received numerous School Improvement Awards from the Department of Education. Most of those improvement awards were achieved in at least three of the four areas considered. Hose has been designated as an Indiana Four Star School in the past. This results from a combination of factors including an effective Title 1, Reading Recovery Program, and building wide curricula that consciously incorporates state standards, and a continuous effort that has pushed test scores to new levels of importance.
